Thumbs up GIGSPAM - It's great to play with a BIG band...

Some of you may have had a look at the video on our band’s website (link in sig). Well, I’m stoked now because we’ve just got a gig with the very much expanded version of the band’s line-up for next month. Here’s the text of an email I just sent out to friends and family…

Here's a date for your diaries, people.

Friday 15th December 2006, 8-00 PM.... LIVE at Netherton Arts Centre... THE YAMS!!

The Yams are the big band version of the EBO, if you like - similar sort of music but with a much bigger line-up, the usual 10 becomes 24! Yes, 24, count them...

5 saxes
5 trumpets
5 trombones
2 guitars
2 keyboardists
Bass (hooray!)
Drums (my mate Forest, I love to play next to this guy, he's awesome)
Percussion/vibes (by "Brains" - this chap's black, but apart from that he looks exactly like Brains from Thunderbirds)
Female and male vocals

It's not often we get to play with this set-up for economic and accommodation reasons (the last gig was B'Ham Arts Fest at the Boult Hall) so this is rare opportunity for your good selves to see this type of outfit, I would think. So, come along and enjoy the BIG noise made by a really good rock/soul/disco/funk/fusion/pop band.

Netherton Arts Centre is the place where we made the EBO video that's on the band's website. Tickets for this turbocharged version are £5, not bad when you consider the amount of musical talent and raw sex appeal on the stage. And the girl singer is extremely fit, as well.

Provisional set list:

Rosanna (Toto)
Brazilian Love Affair (George Duke)
"As Yet Untitled" (Yams original - vibes feature)
Yaleo (Santana)
Soul Intro / The Chicken (Jaco Pastorius)
You Put A Move On My Heart (Quincy Jones)
Garden Party (Mezzoforte)
I Wish (Stevie Wonder)
Sir Duke (Stevie Wonder)
Don't You Worry ‘Bout A Thing (based on the Incognito version of the Stevie Wonder song)
In The Stone (Earth, Wind and Fire)
Let's Groove (Earth, Wind and Fire)
September (Earth, Wind and Fire)
Yeh Yeh (Georgie Fame)
Kids (Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue)
Don't Stop Me Now (Queen)

AND, last but not least, Ma Pardoe's are doing the beer for us again. Hope you can make it, the more the merrier as they say.

Bill

P.S. "Yams"- derogatory Brummie term for Black Country inhabitants.
This invitation is cordially extended to include any Midlands TBers who could make it on the night. Come along and say Hi and sample the beer!

No, music is just a hobby for me. Im reading Geology and Geography. Spent all day Tuesday at the Wrekin near Telford looking at rocks.

Is it strange that im becoming more excited by rocks?

Matt

Not strange to me, I developed a real interest in various aspects of Earth Science when I had to start teaching it.

Anyway, rehearsed for this gig yesterday, went pretty well. I used my Markbass 210 combo for my onstage sound and it coped well, despite the fact that this band is LOUD. I think I might actually take a 115 extension cab for the gig, though, to fill out the low end a little more - it will be the first time I've tried this, or felt the need to try it for that matter.

FOH sound is through a pretty major PA with some very impressive subs, so shouldn't be any problem being heard out front on the night if I remember to buy the sound guy a drink before the show.

Anybody out there local enough to make the show, come down and say hello!
