Gonna do some giggin' with a singer/acoustic player and a bassist buddy of mine. We won't have a lead guitar, mostly just rounding out solo drinking/good time songs. The emPHASIS will be on the song rather than hot guitar picking. We will be doing Hank Jr., Garth Brookish, Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P Nunn, John Hiatt(y) stuff. Let me have it!

If you want country-"ish" songs that aren't really mainstream country (yet still hold wide appeal for a general audience) try a few of these artists:

John Prine
The Eagles
Bob Dylan
John Denver
Chad Mitchell

Bob Dylan stuff is always good and not something you hear all the time. Especially if you pick one of the lesser known tracks.

I like Bobby Bare Jr if you want to do something more modern but with the old country feel.

How about some truck driving songs? My two all-time faves are "200 More Miles" by the Cowboy Junkies, and "Next Best Western" by Richard Shindell.

Look into some Dave Alvin ("Nine Volt Heart" always kills at our shows).

REM's "(Dont Go Back To) Rockville" is a great country song that isn't really one.

Oh yeah, "Wagon Wheel" brings down the house at our gigs every time... everyone loves the verse about smoking up, and singing along with the chorus! Just wait to roll that one out when they're good and lubricated....
