Don't really know why. I guess just to get out of the house and have a few laughs. Anyone here fans of theirs and/or seen them live?

Seen 'em in the mid 90s. They opened for Slayer, iirc. A whole lot of fun. I hope I don't ruin any surprises when I tell you don't wear any nice clothes.

Have a good time!

I saw them on monday. Its a funny live act, but gets kinda old after a bit. Wear white, and see what color you come out the other night. After gwar at sounds of hte underground, everyone looked like blue zombies. it was badass.

That is one show I've always wanted to see. Maybe one of these days I'll find someone to go with and have a laugh.

No, I never wear anything "nice" to a show, especially not at this club, where the A/C is HORRIBLE! Not good when it was 98 today.

I've seen GWAR several times, and contrary to popular belief, they have some very good songs. It is very hard to find another band that gets the crowd going like GWAR. We have this tradition around here, when someone turned 21, we got them white shirts, lots of beer, and took them to GWAR. Several of them have that shirt mounted on their bedroom walls lol.

At Sounds of the Underground they only got like 45 minutes on stage, so they didn't structure too much of an act, just had lots of blood and played their crowd favorites. We were outside for like 4 and 1/2 hours, in Atlanta's sticky humidity. Finally, during their set it started to rain these HUGE drops of rain and everyone was celebrating.

Well GWAR stopped playing the song they were playing, and appropriately changed to "The Maggots are Falling like Rain" and it was one of the most memorable times I ever had at a concert. Everyone was just rejoicing at the rain and the band was just playing like hell.

Great experience if not great music.

Balsac is God.

Well, lemme give you an idea of what happened at our SOTU. The premise is its about 4pm, its 100 Degrees out. Washingtonians know what its like, its so humid you can see the molecules of water in the air. Gwar comes on stage after the crowd chants. We chant and chant. They do their little policeman skit, you'll understand once you witness it. Their slaves rig up the guns, spray cool blue water into the crowd. The crowd is frickin wild, its not like people are circle pitting, which happened to alot of bands, but the mosh is intense. Gwar is a true rock opera. Not in the continuity sense, but the show is 1/2 music, 1/2 acting.

This is my second time seeing Gwar .

p.s. wont be the last.

I had no idae they were still around...

The story round my home town (Newcastle, UK) is that when GWAR came through they took over a small club and did the expected spraying blood everywhere. It was all cleaned up the next day, and the place was taken over the next night for an ultra-trendy disco/clubbing type event.

However the ceiling in this place was pretty low, and the cleaning crew had failed to notice the dried blood up their... As the trendy crowd start heating up their sweat condenses on the ceiling and dripping down on them!!! Of course they were all dressed up and not expecting it, so it had a rather more dramatic effect on them it had the night before...

If you see them when they headline, the put on a complete "Rock Opera" along with a story. The one I saw in Atlanta owned. Oderus' brother came to warn them "The Master" was coming to destroy the Earth. Oderus said "F this place, it suck" but then remembered all the beer that was to be destroyed.

His brother gets chopped up on stage and is reassembled into a super version of himself. Even then they couldn't beat the master, until they realized the Master has a butt. Oderus remembered anything with an anus can be destroyed by putting a firecracker in it.

And so the Master's rule over GWAR came to and end. lol.

SOTU is interesting. Evergreen terrace is more metalcore. They're decent but nothing spectacular. The Chariot is kinda interesting too, they seem at first to just be some sort of hardcore thing but they have this way out of control vibe that can be kinda cool. Behemoth is black metal. They dont fit the venue well. They rock the corpse paint and talk about being norwegian nad stuff, but their music wasnt that great. Through the eyes of the dead is just a decent modern metal composition, the screamer is very hard to understand. but the music is pretty good.
Bands at SOTU that were amazing included Trivium, Gwar, and the Black Dahlia Murder. At the SotU in Columbia MD, one band (Dog Fashion Disco) had the crowd do the wall of death. It was pretty insane. Also, Horse the band makes for an interesting conversation piece. Expect not to hear any bass however. I really liked cannibal corpse. by then I had worked my way to the front of the crowd, and they just rocked, balls to the wall metal. Their bassist was pretty damn sweet too. Played a modulus 5er. Couple cool basses at SOTU
Gwar - Beefcake - Custom ESP 4 string, uses Red DR strings, with EMG pups, Gwar Inlay
Black Dahlia Murder - Zon 4, transblack on flamed maple. Killer looking bass
Cannibal Corpse - Modulus 5
Trivium - Paolo - high end custom B.C. Rich Mockingbirds, two of them. Both are 5ers, one is trans black, the other is red.

They are great live but best when they are last. The other bands seem to have a problem with to many left overs on the stage.

Make sure you dress in all white and get close to the stage so you get a souvenir.

Well done

You'll probably dig Evergreen Terrace too, they're pretty much straight metalcore, but they've got some really heavy breaks...I'm seeing them this fall when they tour with Throwdown, should be a blast.
