That's one of my favorite things about them. I've seen Geddy say in an interview that because of their music can be so complex and involved it would be easy to perceive them as being very pretentious and serious. So to balance that perception what they strive for is to make sure the fans simply have fun at their shows. Gotta love that attitude.
And, for the record, that attitude is made clear at every single show. They WILL deliver and you WILL have fun! My wife has heard me listening to them for over 25 years and always had the exact impression they think people can have of them. She went with my son and I to a concert last summer and she was shocked. She was not only impressed by their level of musicianship (she's a pretty talented classical clarinetist), she just plain had a great time.
