Going to Tokyo; bass shopping

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I will be going to Tokyo in a week or so, and was wondering if anybody has had experience bass shopping there? Is there an area that has some concentration of instrument shops? Specifically, I am looking for a used Aria Pro SB series or older Japanese made Integra bass. I am also looking to pick up a used Boss bass pedal or two. I don't have much time there, so that's why I am looking for an area that may have several used/vintage shops. Thanks!

Check out OCHANOMIZU. Another good area is AKIHABARA & it's only one stop away.

Hi Groovemachine, thanks for the info! I had planned on going to Ochanomizu orignally to visit a specific shop, but didn't know about Akihabara - cool! I don't suppose you have any more detailed info, such as line numbers or exit numbers from the station? Thanks again for your help!

You can get to Akihabara from Ochanomizu by either the Yamanote or Keihin-Tohoku lines. The music store in Akihabara that I like is SofMap, but there are several & only one sells instruments. There's a whole chain of them in Akihabara so might be hard to find & it's kinda difficult to describe where it is.

It may be too late for you, but Shibuya is the new bass heaven, not Ochanomizu.

Try the Kurosawa Shibuya Bass Center, Ikebe, ESP, Ishibashi, Hoochies,

I live in Shibuya, so temptation is around me all the time.

If you go to Ochanomizu, go to the Kurosawa Ochanomizu Bass Center and Main Street Guitars.

From what I have seen online of Japenese guitar shops you are going to have a fun time, have a safe trip.

Hey thanks for the info on Shibuya. If I go back to Tokyo I'll go there for sure. I went to Ochanomizu last month and I ended up getting a nice SB1000 Cliff Burton re-issue, so I'm happy. Got a great deal because of a ding in the headstock.
Thanks again!
