can you believe??? Originally I was asked by three different friends of mine to start a band. One of the three had spoke with the owner of one of the clubs I go to. She said that if we got situated, we might get to play on Thursday nights there...so I talk to the guy about who is all in the band, and it was me, him and another guy (bass, guitard and drums). So I found us a singer and talking to another person (the two other people who asked about starting a band) into being in it...soooo wish me luck getting my $**t together and getting this done!!!! It is gonna be mainly country and southern rock.

I hope I can do this...never played with a band before..closest I came to it was playing on the phone along with a drummer boyfriend of mine back in high school-I played keys then.
The thing is, now, I play with the guidance of another bass player playing along (CDs)...so will I be able to do this with out another player?? I got a lot of practice to do!!!! lol!

No, I find it terribly hard to believe that someone on a forum for muscians could possibly be in a band. I just refuse to believe it.

Congrats.

That's great! Congratulations! I'm sure you'll have a great time. Just try to relax and you'll do fine.

Don't worry. You'll be able to play without your cd player. Just lock in with your drummer and listen to the other musicians and you'll be fine.

Congrats!

Create some chord charts or have the guitar player do it. That might help.
Record your practices.
Practice your songs with the recording bass turned all the way down.

Remember, when the band gets together it's rehearsal. You practice at home.
Everyone should have a copy of the tunes a week or two before and be ready to go at rehearsal.

Good luck.

I have the worst trouble getting good recordings or charts out of people, when I do it usually isn't within a reasonable time to learn the material. The last audition, they did not want to play any of the material at all, instead wanted to jam out and see if we vibed.
I am not bitter about any of them and have learned from all. It is just my lack of band experience combined with my age. At 43 it is hard to get a reply from bands that are younger and less experienced, and the older cats want a real pro. Catch 22. I play for fun anyway, and with Kai Echardt as a teacher it is just a matter or time before I land something/improve to a higher level.
He is truly a phenominal teacher.

Oh lord yes. A serious enough teacher makes a world of difference. Back in the very early '90's, Chuck Rainey started doing lessons at a couple of stores around the D/FW area. You had to pass an audition to be able to take lessons from him in stead of from the regular bass teacher at the store. I took a few before money made me stop. It was very worth it and I wish I could have kept going.
