| | | | The problem for me is that you're throwing out the baby with the bath water. It seems that the very thing you like about urban/black gospel is the soulful exuberance that comes from the fact that it's inspired by, well, the Gospels! The closest you'll get to it is certain soul/R&B/funk music, but even that has its roots in black gospel. Good luck.

I'm just sayin' you may not be able to get one without the other, or at least it may not be quite the same.

I can understand that. It's not about all music, just this style.

I'd love to hear that sound but with different lyrics or none at all. It's a longshot I know, but I had to ask. | Listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kw1TGpUElb4
You may want to be not standing outside near any metal objects when you play it.
Some may say that it's an accurate depiction of the God of the Old Testament...

Switchfoot are another christian rock band... so I don't think that is what the OP is looking for in the slightest. He wants gospel music without the jesus or kindergarten level lyrical content.
OP have you tried listen to some smooth jazz/r&b stations, the poppier the better, you will find artists doing what you are looking for. They won't all be playing gospel stylized music but you will find some. I apologize I cannot name names but as much as I enjoy this style of music I don't buy albums in the genre.
