Good acoustic for $150

I'm buying an acoustic guitar and I only have $150 to spend. Are there any good rules of thumb in buying an acoustic in this price range? Im thinking of a takamine Jasmine but I'm definitely open to suggestions.

I don't think there are any rules of thumb in that price range. If you've played the Takamine, which is a very reputable brand, and you like it...go for it.

Never buy an acoustic sight unseen. IME, go to a guitar shop, play everything in your price range and a bit higher, and walk out with what feels best and sounds best to you. I did this about three years ago, with $800 looking for a Martin. Ended up walking out with a $350 Ibanez that blew everything else out of the water.

The individual piece of wood on an acoustic can make or break the instrument tonally.

take a telescopic mirror

check out the inside of the guitar you never know what damage is there if you can't see it

buy used there's plenty of decent sounding used acoustics for that price

www.rondomusic.net - look for SOLID TOP as a "must have" option.

My brother Andy (a very good bass player in his own right - has a nice DeArmond Pilot and knows how to use it) recently bought an acoustic guitar with a local shop's name on the headstock, and the price he paid and the workmanship in the instument make me think it may have come from the same factory that Rondo uses. Quite nice for the price.
