GOOD books for keyboard learning?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been playing/learning keyboards for a while now and the book I'm using is TERRIBLE.I haven't learnt a great deal from it and what I did learn is probably stuff I could have worked out anyway.

What I didn't like is that:
  • It was focused too much on left-hand chords and not actual keyboard basslines.
  • It didn't actually teach me to read the treble clef (although I worked it out anyway)
  • Most of the songs were so adapted/watered down they sounded horrible.
  • There was no real teaching of music theory for keys
  • There was a brief explanation of scales/arpeggios but it skimmed over a lot of it

So, can anyone suggest any REALLY good keyboard lessons book/course?

Is Latvian OK, or do you prefer that it be written in Sumerian? And do the pages need to be laminated for moisture resistance?

What I don't like is that you apparently plan to become another keyboard player who also wants to play simultaneous bass.

Ponder these two recent threads:

Music theory is universal across instruments. If you know theory, then you know theory. There isn't "keyboard theory" or "bass theory" or "guitar theory" etc.
Being a bassist, you should already know how to write your own bass lines. You should also probably know how to read bass cleff. On top of those, you should be able to develop a bass line from a chord progression... that's part of what playing bass is...
To address some of your other points... it sounds like you bought an introduction book, which is logical. It's not going to go in depth on every subject there is, especially with theory, the songs included, arps etc. Next step is to either get a teacher, or buy a more advanced book and continue.
