Good brand of mike stands?

My church is looking to replace our crappy Hercules stands with something of quality. Of course they don't have a lot of money so that is a consideration. What are a good brand of microphone stands that we should buy. Thanks!

I use a Peavey Heavy Duty tripod boom mic stand. They are very durable and heavy weight.

If you want a round bass stand, Atlas makes great mic stands.

I've got 3 Ulitmate stands, don't know how they stack up against other brands, but they have a heavy base and are designed so you can stack them for easy transport. Had them for about 8 years with no failures (two have booms), more than 1000 gigs. Not too expensive either.

Edit: I just realized that I made a mistake, as the stands I own are Ultimate, not OnStage, thanks Alembicplyr. Not sure what I was thinking. I know lots of guys like the tripod stands, but I don't like 'em, just my preference.

K&M Proline. You buy crap, you buy twice.

K&M are great mic-stands.

I don't know about brands, but tripod stands made from thickwalled tubing with heavy duty hardware are the way to go, IMO, especially if you have to transport them. Collapse them, fold their legs up, and throw a couple of bungee cords around them and you can carry a bunch of them at once. I have pinched my fingers and banged my ankles way too often trying to carry those round based stands around!

Then you've never seen Latch Lake.

Of course, the OP did specify "don't have a lot of money" which is why I didn't mention Latch Lake in response. But a Latch Lake MicKing stand can kick the crap out of (10) K&M stands, take their lunch money, give 'em all a wedgie, and leave them crying for Mama.

It'll also cost nearly as much as those (10) K&M's, so you gotta want the best and be willing to pay for the best.

No, I'd never seen a Latch Lake - they're serious stands! Serious money too. They appear to be intended more for studio than live use though. They would be incredible studio stands!

I'll duct tape a mic to a stick before I'll spend $750 on a mic stand, but that's just me...

Ah, but would you duct tape a $7,500 mic to a stick before spending $750 on a mic stand?

I might, but it's not really an option for me, since I don't have any $7500 mics. Neither does the OP's church, I'll wager; I'm pretty sure he's asking about performance stands to put his 57's or 58's on.

a little off topic but every time I do a gig and see a drummer set up a cymbal stand that cost maybe $50-$60 that is more stable than just about any mic stand I've ever seen (except really high end booms like Latch Lake or something) I gripe about a $70 crap stand that can barely support the weight of a decent condensor!

someone needs to make an attachment!

As a drummer, I would be absolutely loathe to put a cymbal on a stand that cheap!

be that as it may, I'm not really "up" on drum gear (though learning) but there is no comparison in the stability of these two links for roughly the same $$:

cymbal stand
mic stand

or even this . . .
2 cymbal stands for the $$ of one mic stand
