Good live music in mid-town?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'll be in NYC on business next week and my wife is planning on making the trip with me. We'll have a bit of time in the evening and would be interested in checking out some live music. We've stumbled upon some decent music from time to time, but would help to have some local help

I'm fairly open on style - blues, rock, country, funk, R&B, jazz, etc. We'll be staying in mid-town, maybe a 10 minute walk to Times Square. Maybe I could even catch a fellow TB'er in action...

Thanks!

PS - And, oh yes - will be making a stop in Brooklyn next Thursday to get my first Sadowsky started...

There's mostly venues in Midtown, such as Roseland, not the types of places that have live music every night. But the great thing about NYC is the subway system. Really cheap, and gets you to anywhere in NYC pretty fast. So here's a few recommendations

For jazz, I like Cleopatra's Needle. It's on the upper west side. Really cool atmosphere, good music. There's tables, and they serve food, it's a very relaxed environment.

For rock, but they have other genres as well, I like the Knitting Factory and the Lion's Den. Both are awesome clubs. Basically a bar, a standing area, and a stage.

Cool - thanks. I would certainly be willing\able to hit the subway if needed. I'll check some of these out!

go to the Sam Ash on 48th st. Pickup one of the free Jazz guides, there are like 3 of them. Also get a copy of Time Out NY. With those two, you will be set.

plenty to do south of 59th, I don't go north...I am downtown kind of guy....
