Good Santana Songs?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TB,

I've always loved Santana, but never really went through all of his stuff.

I really like Black Magic Woman, Europa, and Flor de Luna, but that's all that I know.

What other songs are like that, or what songs do you like?

Thanks!

-Don

Can't go wrong with the first three albums, and, be sure to check out their Woodstock set. Mindblowing stuff.

You might also want to check out the original Black Magic Woman, the Fleetwood Mac(the good Fleetwood Mac!) version

I have been a Santana fan since the first album, before the performance at Woodstock. You might want to listen to Caravanserai, Day of Celebration, Aqua Marine, Deeper, Dig Deeper, Blues for Salvador, and The Healer and Chill Out, with John Lee Hooker. Bottom line Carlos has produced so much great music that you just have to listen to what ever you can get your hands on. Do yourself a favor and pick some of his live DVDs. You wont be disappointed. There is also a ton of stuff on you tube.

"Oye Como Va" with Tito Puente, "Baila Mi Hermana," "Evil Ways," "Jingo," "Soul Sacrifice" and their cover of the Zombie's "She's Not There" immediately leapt to mind.

Those are all classic Santana songs that still get airtime on classic rock stations.

Just buy Santana and Abraxas and listen to all the songs. That's a good start.

"Abraxas" is a true classic album. I also like "Amigos" so much because "Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven Smile)" is there, but "Baila Mi Hermana", "Take Me With You" and "Let Me" are great songs from that album as well. From the (comparatively) more recent stuff, I remember that around 1981 I captured this video on a Betamax tape and played it over and over (no pun intended).

And of course there's the performance at Woodstock! One of the highlights of the event IMO.
