Gospel is the stuff!

My bass instructor turned me on to contemporary gospel music. It's like someone took jazz, blues, r&b, funk, soul, with a little hip hot, mixed in a pot and added a 30 piece choir. Wow! You talk about groove! Awesome bass lines, drums, horns, guitars, keys you name it. These new gospel artists are really pushing the envelope and making great music that equals any jazz. You talk about pocket presence, some of these people are redefining it! I know what I will be listening to for inspiration in many ways.

You might want to look up some real *old* stuff too; Mahalia Jackson and others. Here's a cool link:

It's good to go back to the actual roots sometimes on top of the modern derivations. Modern stuff can get diluted by all these other influences and lose the original emotion, feeling and passion.

And music is all about passion.
