Got A Handy New Patchbay

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently had a nice patchbay made by Campfield Recorders and Sound so I thought I'd post it here. Nicely made, has a support bar for all of the cables as well. The point of it was to let me plug my cabs, my MIDI controller, my bass, and my recording interface all into the front of my rack, rather than having to reach into the back of it and fumble around every time I wanted to plug or unplug something.

It has four dual XLR/1/4" jacks, 5-pin MIDI, 7-pin MIDI, USB, Firewire, and Ethernet throughs (my Looperlative updates through Ethernet, and the other jacks were to futureproof the patchbay), two Speakon jacks, and two TRS jacks.

The way I have it set up now is one of the TRS jacks acts as an in from my bass to my pedals, and the other an out from my pedals to my Axe-FX Ultra. Two of the XLR jacks are outs from my Looperlative to record from, and the other two are connected to the balanced outs on the Axe if I want to record just the Axe without the Looperlative. Here's a pic of it as it's being used currently:

Don't you find that tough to tweak your AXE-fx with all the cables in the way? Or should I just assume you don't tweak it anymore?
Nice idea with the patch bay though, the quality looks fantastic.

Oh and while we're at it, how are you liking the fractal audio?
Dirk

I do nearly all of my Axe-FX tweaking on the PC editor- it's far easier. Due to my vision, I can't even see the Axe's screen unless I'm close enough to where the cables are pretty much out of the way (the XLR jacks only have something plugged into them when I'm recording anyways).

As for the unit, I absolutely love it. There's only a few things it can't do yet that I want, which is why I still have a couple pedals up top (it does cop the Boss OC-2 sound, but I like to run that before my synthy fuzz pedals so I had to get a pedal version).

you dont ever tweak your tone live on stage? there is always a little adjusting to be done to work with different rooms. i guess i'm vain when it comes to looking at my rack. i did everything i could to NOT have any cables sticking out the front!

I'm just a hobbyist, so that's not really an issue for me, although since I can alter any parameters I need to with my foot controller, I suppose it wouldn't be an issue when gigging either

ah ok, i dont know anything about that unit so if you can tweak even eq and stuff by foot it makes a bit more sense to me now.
