end to go into your game console and a 1/4" plug on the
other end to go into your bass (or guitar).
You can buy another cable and use two instruments (e.g. bass
and guitar) at once. I bought the second cable but we haven't
tried it yet with two instruments. |

My question is if I were to download the game will it recognize the signal received from the m-audio fast track? Or if you HAVE to use the cable they make. |

I have the audio routed from my PS3 via the AV outputs on the console into a boombox, and I get no lag at all. | I got it for my birthday and have the same results with the latency. It drives me crazy. Other then that it's fun but because of it I haven't spent much time with it yet. I'll try your idea though C. Linton and see if it helps.

Been having a lot of fun with it. Haven't even tried it with the fast track input. I may try it out of curiosity though.
Only a couple complaints about the game. I wish there were more options for displaying the frets as you're supposed to play them. Much better with the "tab"/inverted option. But it would be cool if you could flip the display as if you were watching someone else play. Could be a handy tool to practice jamming with people without previously knowing the songs.
Also, I'm sure it's great for beginners, but I really hate how they refer to the strings by their assigned color when the game is showing you a video. Maybe it changes later on, I'm not that far in yet.
Finally, the DiMarzio pickups I have in my squier sometimes make the game sh!t itself. Occasionally I will get a pop up telling me that they're too high output and won't move on until the volume is about halfway down and the tone is at 3/4. And this is a p bass with flats. I'm hoping it isn't indicative of a shoddy cable that is going to burn out pretty quickly. |

| | | | My experience with Rocksmith has been great. I play it on an Xbox that is routed thru my stereo to kick the latency issue.
Here are some thing I've found about the game so far.
1> Have an old guitar hero mic laying around? I have one for the Wii, it is usb and plugs right in to my Xbox and you can Karaoke your heart out. BTW I learned you can plug in 2 mics.
2> The USB cord that come with the game can be used with your PC. You can set up Audacity or lots of other software such as AV Linux and record yourself, or play with the cabinet and pedal settings in AV Linux.
3> I've been playing with this game for awhile, and I really like it.
My fingers have the calluses to prove it.
4> you can cut off the cheap 1/4 in plug and (if you know how) put on a good 90 degree angle plug.
If anyone else has any ideas or findings post um. |

| | | | I had never touched a string instrument before December. My brother got me Rocksmith and let me borrow his unused bass. I tried it and loved it. Then, my wife got me a starter Squier kit for my birthday so I can get going.
So, without Rocksmith, I probably would not have picked up the bass.
I use it as a tool to play around with but also step aside and use the cable to jack into my Mac and go through GarageBand or MainStage. Rocksmith is great, but it's good to step away from it and just practice the essentials if you want to learn "how" to play music not just "what" to play. |

I've got the latency down to the point it's still there but not so bad. The game can be a little slow at first but once you have to get a min of 90K points it gets a bit more challenging.
I even traded a fretless bass for a mexican strat so I could try and play guitar.. but alas my friggin shrek fingers can't handle six tiny strings... not to mention that string spacing!

This is actually motivating me to get a real bass guitar teacher, as I can see it's limitations. For now it's pretty darn fun, and yeah Vasoline is a hand workout! |

No lag at all. I've also got the game for PS3 and am now rank 6 on guitar. (I've been playing guitar less than 3 months).
I've played emulated bass on my epiphone les paul studio gothic pb, and am now waiting for my thunderbird classic IV pro to come so I can play real bass.
I love rocksmith so far, you can spend time in game learning a song, turn the game off and still play the song... that has to be a good thing. Re guitar its taught me slides, tremolo picking, hammer ons and pull offs, and introduced me to bands like interpol and muse which I hadnt heard before. |

I picked it up alright, while my girlfriends brother who has been playing for 10+ years couldn't play the simpler songs. It's intended for kids to learn guitar but feel like they are playing a video game IMO. I like it for practicing more than learning songs, it's a great way to "play with a band" without a band being there, and at much quieter volumes.
