Ok before i begin. I am NOT looking for some mercenary out to charge me double what anyone else gets paid. I don't need a bassist THAT bad for this gig. I don't want emails from a bunch of arrogant players who think they're the sh#@ and I can't play the show without them. The fact is, I've been playing 10 years professionally and if i wasn't playing the guitar in this project, i'd be on the bass cause im 4x better than half the people who answered saying i had to pay them big buxx.

Phew, ok now, if you're still here... i have a show in nyc in 13 days. i have 2 booked rehearsals and a 7-8 song set. what i want is someone who is looking to get into a project and wants to hit the stage soon with a band that is fully up and running. if it works out, it could easily turn long term. if not, you get a chance to play, with fun people, have a good time, and make a little dough from the show and maybe some new friends and peers.

we're going to do the show even though our bassist has left. we have done it this way before. would i prefer to have bass? of course.

holla back if you are into it.

Sure does sound like fun, and I gotta love a guy who's trying that hard to screen for attitude!! Probably says something about the interpersonal tone in the band. Hmmmmmm...wonder why the bass player is gone?

While I don't disagree with you, I'd probably take a crack at it depending on the material.

I might give the guy a call if I want to pick up a quick fill-in gig. However, given his attitude, I can almost guarantee:

(1) It won't turn full time. At least not with me. Unless the guy who wrote the ad leaves the band, or has a life-changing experience, or gets a lobotomy.

(2) Not everyone I would be playing with would be "fun people".

But then again, not many of the bands I've played in have consisted 100% of "fun people", but I still played with them.

There are many different types of people, and he is definitely one of those different types, I guess.

Well, after his first paragraph I was loading up to flame him good. The tone of the second is totally different, I guess that swayed me. I'm thinking that if he were totally that arrogant and condescending, the word "peers" wouldn't even occur to him.

Yes, with gusto. I would imagine that this fellow has a hard time keeping a band together.

There is his first paragraph written in a more sensible manner.

I dunno--looks to me like he's just sick of "pros" contacting him expecting to be paid $$$ to practice 8 songs because they can solo up and down the neck.

If I were in the area, I think it would at least merit a phone call to see what he's like in the real world.

Maybe he's a jerk, and maybe he's just frustrated with looking for a bass player who doesn't take themselves too seriously with little time left before a gig.

I'd be tempted to reply to find out what he was actually looking for and at the end add "by the way, I'm way cheaper and more arrogant than you".

Found another interesting ad. Maybe the band name should be "Fool"?? (J/K)

Band Leader seeks band members who want a leader

I am a band leader with a sonic vision and I am looking for musicians who want to or are at least willing to take direction. I need a good drummer who likes Tool, a good bassist who likes Tool, and a good guitarist who likes Tool. Needless to say, my favorite band is Tool...I want the sound of the band to be remeniscent of Tool but I also want the band to be it's own seperate entity. I think vocals are not needed, but if I change my mind and decide to add vocals, I will provide them myself. Also, I may play some guitar for the band.

Absolutely not, that was very reasonable. I thought there was some subtle joke I was missing. If someone before even joining your band was making big money demands, I'd be pissed too. The whole saying how he's a good bass player might have come off egotistical, but maybe he auditioned some crappy bassists.

Sounds like a decent guy.

Maybe it got to me because I'm only looking for paying gigs. If I weren't perhaps it would come off differently - but the fact that he's saying he doesn't need a bass player that bad, he can do the show without one, and that he can play better n most bassists out there... i dunno... it urked me. i wouldn't wanna play with this guy and he fer sure wouldn't want to play with me. nice how the world works that way sometimes. I guess his ad will work for him.

This @ss is the kind of person that would be trying to tell you how to play the bass and correcting you everytime it wasn't up to "his" standards. No thanks!
