grad schools with good graduate music programs?

Sign in to disble this ad
im currently a sophomore at southeast missouri state university. im double majoring in french horn performance and music composition, and plan on continuing my studies in one or both areas elsewhere after i earn my 2 bachelors degrees. semo's music program is more geared towards music education (being as they are a popular school for education degrees in general for the region) rather than performance, but the faculty here is still knowledgeable and skilled enough to get me where i need to be in terms of skill by the time i graduate as compared to schools with a stronger performance program. a few weeks ago i went online and found the list of horn repertoire required by students at the royal college of music in england, and plan to practice to the point of surpassing their written curriculum. im leaning more towards getting my masters (and eventually doctorate) degree in horn performance, but id like you to share what information you have about any music college in general. their strengths, weaknesses, emphasized areas, size, anything. thanks!

Don't know much about the classical department, but the University of North Texas in Denton is THE school for Jazz. My boyfriend at the time majored in music and played piano/organ, so I can only assume that their classical studies are just as strong. It's at least worth looking in to it.
