So last night I decided to watch the Grammys for the first time in years. Maybe I have been under a rock or something or just simply involved only in the local music scene. Is it just me or has live performance at this level gotten to the point of completely ignoring the music and musicians? Now I do understand that performances on these types of shows use a lot of prerecording. Lip sync and jam sync I guess it's called these days. My gripe about the whole thing is that it was more of a circus than music, particularly the female performers. I thought the Grammy's were "MUSIC AWARDS". What happened to the music? I will say that I enjoyed the Zack Brown Band and they kept me from completely banging my head against the wall. Support Your Local Musicians!

I know what you're saying. A big segment of pop music "performance" is about spectacle. Unfortunately, it sells. |

When has it really ever been otherwise?
It's about money. Always has been...

IIRC, there were musicians playing live on every act. |

That said, if I ever won one all guests to my home would be required to rub it before they were allowed in. One of our own recorded the bass parts for Taylor Swift, who did very well for herself I understand. Good for him. |

But the majority of musical "performances" have always been canned in part or altogether, going back to the days of variety shows. Pete sure isn't playing all the guitar parts you hear on this clip (though I love it, anyway ). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9-JdubfUCw

In a field as subjective as the arts, the only thing that truly matters is the observer's opinion. All the music acts I like will never win any awards, and that's just fine by me. If you like Beyonce or Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift, then you're a happy camper. If not then you don't give a damn. Me, I don't give a damn!

Plus she absolutely killed Elton John at his own game. She is extremely talented, the rest of them? Well, we wont be hearing from many, if any, of them in 10 year. Gaga, is here to stay.
