The great GAS Killer(s)!

I've recently found my nearly unbearable GAS squelched.

First off, I got into another incredible gigging band with what I believe to be some of the top talent in Albuquerque. These guys have floated around the top of the scene here for years, in various bands. I don't have time to dream of this bass or that while I'm trying to keep up with them - and the gear I have is about as good as it gets, anyway (Epifani, Bergantino, Turner, G&L, Fender, Regenerate, etc).

Secondly, I've been informed that my company is closing it's doors in a few months and I will be without a job. Two things come out of that: 1), we've got a ton of work to complete before that happens, and 2), looking for a job is a very time-consuming task.

Life is good, though. Nothing to worry about, and it's nice to be GAS-free for a while!

EDIT: It just hit me that I haven't had time for TB, and that my GAS pains tend to track my TB time. So the real GAS killer isn't lots of gigs and losing your job; it's getting away from TB!

My GAS-killer (bass beano?) is that I have literally 2 rooms in my house FULL of musical instruments and related gear. I have no room for anything new and need to sell some stuff as it is. My living room looks like a music shop: it contains (usually) 2 basses, martin acoustic, seagull 12-string, fender strat, 3 amps (including my SVT), 2 keyboards (one full-size, the other a midi controller), microphones, music stands, a djembe, a set of bongos, and a sitar. The spare bedroom has a similar complement of music gear.

I'm glad I'm not married - if I had a wife, I'd be dead now.

My gas killers are an American P bass, Ampeg tube preamp and a fEARful 15/6 cab. If I had money to burn - WHICH I DON'T - I might have slight GAS pains for a Sadowsky. But that is so far out of my budget it doesn't even cause GAS.

Good luck finding a new job! You are right: job searching can easily become an 8-hours-every-day activity. I just ended a 93-day unemployment period, and if I had not devoted 8 hours every day to the various job search activities - including networking - I am certain I would still be unemployed.

very cool about the new band, its always great to play with other solid players, really can up your game. hopefully it's a good enough gig to bring in some $$'s.

glad to hear your GAS free too, it can actually be a real relief not to pine for gear for a while. I went overseas last year without any gear (left it all in storage or with friends) and had to patch together a small working rig in a foreign land with limited buying options. That experience really gave me a new perspective on GAS. After all, we really only need one bass and one amp that will cover the gig, not mega multiples of everything and all of the boutique goodies that capitalism and marketing can tempt us with.

good luck on the job search, hopefully you have some leads already.

but most importantly .. enjoy!

Mine is the Genz Benz 6.0 dbl12T cabs with my usa G&L's L2500's one fretted one fretless, with a dunlop volume pedal and a tuner. The fretted one has EB flats the fretless has LaBella tape wound flats.
The G&L's are modified to gave me coil tapping, and after tring every effect pedal known to man I just run the G&L's single coil with the GB fairly flat and just let the gear talk.
I've been playing bass since 1963 and this is the best sound I've ever heard or had!
Peace&Love
