I'm sad to announce the passing yesterday, of my friend Herman Ernest, one of my all time favorite drummers to play with.
Herman was Dr John's drummer for the best part of the last thirty years, in addition to playing on LaBelle's "Lady Marmalade", The Neville Brothers "Fiyo On The Bayou", and many others.
We played in a band together in the late eighties, plus concerts with Boz Scaggs, Dr John and others. Thankfully, I was able to play with him twice in 2009, after he had undergone treatment and surgery for cancer. Although he had lost much weight, he still had that great spark.
