What is the greatest Rush song ever, they have so many, and I have not have found one that I dislike yet, and I have ten albums so far.
So far, I'm convinced that the greatest song by them is
Instrumental: La Villa Strangiato
All Together: 2112 Overture (whole thing)
Secondly, best album?
Hemispheres, in my opinion
What do you guys think?

And I'll cheat on the album and say Chronicles, lol!

| | | | Best Album: Realllly close. For me, it's between Hemispheres and Moving Pictures. Both have their really good songs, and I think it's a tie.
Best Instrumental: La Villa Strangiato. That song is a composition fit for the gods. If I ever get as good as Lifeson, I will be amazed.
Best Lyrics: We all know that Neil is an amazing lyricist. Subdivisions, Limelight, Red Sector A and A Farewell to Kings all really hit home for me. I don't really know what can win. There's just so much symbolism and complexity in their songs. I don't think I can pick one here.
Best Bass Riff: Probably Freewill or YYZ. YYZ has some great fills.
Best Guitar Solo: YYZ live has some great stuff, but I think I'm gonna have to say La Villa Strangiato. Oh God, great stuff.
Best Drum Solo: It's really between Der Trommler and O Baterista. O Baterista wins out. |

Best album: Rock in Rio. I am a sucker for live albums and this is one of the best. |

My favorites tend to go between Middletown Dreams, Cold Fire, Subdivisions, and Prime Mover. That's not to diminish any other song, or any other era. I have ears for the production and writing of 82-present Rush, but I love every part of their career.
Favorite albums for me are Power Windows, Signals, and Counterparts. |

The rock band in which I play started as sort of a Rush tribute band and LVS was the first song we rehearsed. After all these years, still blows my mind (Coincidentially, I played it last night in my first gig with my Ric ).
For best album, my vote goes to Moving Pictures.

Stage Left". That's a great album, but I hate that version of LVS because of the "bonus" lyrics. |

My favorite song is probably the YYZ from that live album.
Favorite album is Moving Pictures. |

| | | | Hard to say really. I love all the periods the band's gone through (and I have a special fondness for the sound and instrumentation of the Permanent Waves/Moving Pictures/Signals era), but I really believe their *songwriting* skills have come a long long way since the earlier days. The Presto album in particular contains some just masterful songwriting (The Pass, Presto, and Available Light).
Plus I think it's awesome how these guys are better players in their 50's than they were in their 20's-30's! Geddy in particular. I've always thought he was a great bassist, but he's started to get downright insane over the last few years, in both technique and feel. |
