I said upper midrange, but you left out "The sound Rickenbacker makes". For me, that is the definition of GROWL!

Well, TB told me I should check out Stingray's for growl. I was expecting a really low, growly, bass focused sound. But it is infact a very mid-range growl. Still, to me, its growl.

Stingray + Ampeg = GROWLLLLL

GK even has a 'boost' knob wich turns up growl, therefore i go with the sound a GK makes.

it's hard to define sound with words. i remember a thread about the most puncy bass, and every bass immaginable has been named in that thread, proving that 'sound' means differnt things to everyone.
in essence, growl is the holy grail of tone and there are a million ways of getting there.

don't forget the strings you are using, i'm convinced that 50% of your tone comes from them.

That is growl in my opinion. Plus I love the ending of the video.

For me it's high mids and that "hitting the rails" sound. Whether you get it from a GK, Ampeg, a Jazz bass or whatever else, it sounds good.

Growl to me comes from the bass. It's that low-mid grunt that comes from a Jazz, Rick, etc. Growl can be enhanced with overdrive.

SOAD was like, THE sloppiest band live at that time. So glad they cleaned up/got some sense.
