Fortunately, I missed these douchebags by a couple of hours. Had they tried it 2 hours earlier (during rush hour), the probably would've been violently assaulted!

Band Members Who Shut Down 101 Fwy Released From Jail
The musicians are scheduled to appear in court Nov. 3

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- The three members of a hip-hop band who blocked traffic for nearly two hours on the 101 Freeway in Hollywood on Tuesday have been released from LA County jail.

Upon their release, one band member said he would do it again. The three members face misdemeanor charges and are scheduled to appear in court Nov. 3.

On Tuesday, around 10:30 a.m., Christopher Wright, Keith Yackey and David Paul Hale parked their van in the middle of traffic lanes and climbed on top of the vehicle to perform a song titled, "Traffic Jam 101."

The impromptu performance backed up traffic all the way to the San Fernando Valley.

LAPD officers were called to the scene and started to direct traffic around the vehicle while firefighters blocked off the remaining southbound lanes and eventually convinced the men to surrender.

Shortly after they were arrested, traffic started moving. The truck was towed shortly before noon and all lanes of the freeway were reopened.

Police say the driver of the van had fled in another vehicle and took the keys to the vehicle with him. Police say he may also face charges.

The band, known as the "Imperial Stars, " describes itself as a "hard core hip hop band" from Orange County. They claim the performance was aimed at raising awareness for homeless children.

A banner on the truck read, "Over 1.5 million homeless children in the USA. What are we doing?"

The band claims all the proceeds from their newest single will go toward helping homeless kids.

All three members of the band face misdemeanor charges and are scheduled to be in court on November 3.

Yeah, I would definitely be having to explain my need for bail money to the Missus if some nozzles had pulled that during my commute home.

I think it'd be cool to have a generator party a la Kyuss in a park or something.

Not on a freeway.

I'd just like to add that I'm not completely against guerrilla concerts. I still fondly remember getting out of high school and hearing on the radio that U2 was playing a free concert in downtown Los Angeles. I don't remember why I didn't go, but that concert was memorialized in the Where the Streets Have No Name video.

But were talking U2 here, arguably the biggest rock band of the day. Not some no-name hard core hip hop group from OC.

I have a recording of Kyuss playing out in the desert. Parts of it have made Youtube:

I've played out in the woods, Pompeii style, before. Its a whole lot of fun.

I'm actually going to come out in support of the hip-hop group, too. Great idea, if you're actually doing it for a purpose and are willing to deal with the legal ramifications.

My old band set up a show at a construction site. They were building an office building. We scoped the place out for power outlets and security and formed a plan. We had all our gear loaded up into my truck. We were going to quietly roll the truck up to a getaway spot, set up quickly, play a few songs and take off. We had routes ready to go and had about 20 people that came out to see the show. When we got there, the place was swarming with security guards, so we had to go home and play in a garage.

My band is renting an RV to head for some out of town dates in San Diego. We're having a hard time getting a booking for one of the nights, and if we cant find anywhere we're going to set up in a Walmart parking lot and use the RVs power.

I remember seeing a TV documentary about the early days of hip-hop, that talked about how the DJs in New York City would rig up power from nearby light poles and throw spontaneous parties in parks and such. Sounds more harmless than blocking off traffic.
