Guide to Shopping for Gear

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys.

I've been involved in playing music my whole life. But at first it was trombone, which requires for the most part just your instrument and music.

Now that I play bass, there's a lot more strategy into purchasing the right products, and finding the best deals you can. Going to Guitar Center is convenient, but I feel like there are other ways and places to buy gear at much better prices. I just don't know where to look.

So, my big question is: When you're looking to buy new products (basses, amps, pedals, etc.) what are the steps you take, what websites & stores do you check out, and what strategies do you use to nab the best deal you can?

Thanks for any help you can provide
-Mike

I normally look around at a bunch of sites and check the prices. Just google a piece of equipment you're interested in and look at all the sites that look professional enough.

Edit: Make sure it's actually professional. Don't wanna get robbed =p

I like to check webstores for price and description of different gear. If I see something that interests me, then I check out the manufacturer's site. I also look for youtube (or other) video demonstrations. I also search TB reviews and threads.

I usually don't get to try equipment first due to my location. If I could try before buying, I would.

I see, so there are no online stores where everything is half off that only TalkBassers know about? xD Just kidding. Alright, thanks for your input guys.
