All right guys don't castagate me for this, but I bought a Strat just to fool around with. I never have played guitar before so I was wondering what a decent amp would be for the house.
Thanks

The fender pro and blues junior, the fender champ, the orange tiny terror, the epiphone valve junior. There are a few more out there. All will give you at least 1 really good tone. |

Or for about the same price you can get a Vox Valvetronix AD15VT 15-watt hybrid modeling amp (or for about $50 more you can get the AD30VT 30-watt amp). I have the 50-watt version, and in manual mode I can get lots of very nice tones from it.

This is just my bedroom rig.
I'm entirely kidding.
Look for a cool little combo that you like the features of. I'm not nutty on modeling amps, but there's a lot to choose from, and it's not all expensive stuff.

I used to own a VT, not bad at all, but I'd recommend a Tech21 Trademark60 if you can get one, compact, light and with great tones.

It'll work- but so much of "good" guitar tone is about the cab and speakers. That's why people fork out the big bank for old 20-25w speakers- they break up and distort. Most modern bass speakers are pretty well designed to limit distortion. Most modern bass cabs are voiced with bass frequencies in mind.

The speakers in the NV610, and the cabinet itself are designed quite differently.
You can give it a try, but I don't think it will sound like a Marshall. But who knows? |

It's a very versatile amp that's lightweight. The Trademark 10 and 30 are very nice as well. They are solid state, but it's hard to tell.
For tube tones for blues and rock, the Fender Hot Rods and Blues Deville are nice. But, the great value that's out there is the Peavey Classic. I own a Classic 30, and it's all tube and the sound is there. Great versatility, and lovely tube goodness. |
