Guitar & Amp Stinks of Smoke Help

Sign in to disble this ad
My bandmates are heavy smokers of cigarettes and other things... I leave my amp and one of my basses at the pad so I don't have to lug it back and forth everytime. My gear stinks of smoke, can anyone recommend a safe method to deordorize my gear? The smell is seriously starting to bother me.

And the band partners don't?

Maybe you can get them to jump in a tub of Febreze before each rehearsal.....

Give the bass a polish with some nice (finish-friendly!!) wax and it will smell brand new. Dunno about the amp though...

Any amp gurus in the house?

Ozium. Technically you're not supposed to use it on surfaces like that, but I've done it in drastic (read: badly-smelling-of-smoke) situations with good results.

Clean as much gunk off first and then Ozone.

Ozone in moderate doses. Bag gear and hit it with an ozone generator.

All the other stuff is just a cover up - febreeze, oust, ozium. They have nasty scents in them and chemicals that dull your sense of smell.

Peroxide works on some scents that are not in too much an oily/tar sort of backdrop. Peroxide should be tested on a hidden area of a surface to make sure there is no damage. It does not work on everything but it has surprised me how well it works when it does.

Peace,
S
