Guitar Center change of hands?

Sign in to disble this ad
I heard today from a guy who works at a local music store, that Guitar Center (and by implication, all of the entities owned by them, i.e. Musician's Friend et.al.) had been taken over by an investment group of some sort, and that they've been taken private. I don't cruise the stock pages, so I have no way to verify this, so if anyone knows about this, please chime in!

I kind of suspected the Musiciansfreind.com - WWBW.com connection when both stores started listing the same items ( I never read the article before now). They both also had online ordering/shipping downtimes at the same time for moving to a new central warehouse and implementing a new inventory management system. I couldn't order express shipping at either place during that time.

It used to be that Music123.com (WWBW) would ship heavy and/or oversized items that Musicainsfriend.com would not. I never like MF's shipping policies or rates. Hopefully that will improve (probably not ).
