Yes they do. And if you know the salesman real well he will extend the layaway. That's how my wife got her Strat.

In my case, I put 100 bucks down on something and am told, make any type of payment within 30 days to continue.
Ex: 100 down, pay 20 bucks within 30 days or pay 50, 100 etc, otherwise it goes back on the shelf.
