Unhappy Guitar Center Lost/Stole My SR5!??!

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't like shopping at huge corporate type places, because I like to support the "little guys." So I brought my Stingray 5 to a local place called 'Victor's House Of Music' and dropped it off for some minor repairs that, in retrospect, I could've done myself....poorly.

One of the guys informs me that they are being bought out by Guitar Center (ARRRRRRR!) and that it would take a little longer to complete. Over the weekend, I decided I didn't want to give guitar center any of my money and went to pick it back up and take it to a different local place.

AND WHAT DO THEY TELL ME:

Uhhh, we can't find your bass, come take a look for yourself. I searched the entire room with the guy and it was nowhere in sight. He told me to call the "guitar tech" tomorrow and ask him if he knows where it may be, since they did a little moving around during the takeover. I am in denial, but think he may be stalling the inevitable.

The claim check states on it "Not responsible for loss by fire and theft"

Can they get away with losing my bass and not compensating me? This is my prized posession and it is all that I own worth a damn. I am broke and this would be financially, and more importantly, emotionally crushing for me.

Has anyone had a similar experience like this? Is there a good way to approach them in case they actually did lose my bass and will try to not compensate me for it? I cannot afford a lawyer.

Thanks for the input.

Seriously, just keep bitching till something happens, hell even threaten to tell a news paper or something, im sure a story like this can be picked up and really mess with their business, you have to end it with a tag line like "SO NOW I ONLY SHOP AT SAM ASH"

+1 Thanks everyone, I feel much better in handling this situation tomorrow if they make it official that my bass is gone forever.

I'll post what happens next.

Wow... I would unleash hell on them if that happened. Who knows what happened... what if they sold it already or something? That's something GC would do.

I hope it works out for you , such as the tech took it home to work on it , he shouldn't , but hopefully this is the case.

Plaese update on this when you find out ,

for what it's worth I believe "Victors house of music" IS "american musical.com"

Yeah take all their basses, and light the goddamn store on fire, ****ing "not responsible for loss due to fire or theft."

GC is one of the most horrible stores around, even though I still need it. Still horrible, with a capital R.

I hate to be the one to bring it up, but it sounds like GC just can't find it, could it have been the other owners that lost it? You gave it to them not GC correct?
Since when does GC do repairs?
I would like to see you get your bass back but are you blaming the right people?
The not responsible for fire or stolen, was that a GC receipt?

Yeah, it used to be. I just found this article confirming Victor's being sold to Guitar Center. American Musical Supply has escaped the maw of Guitar Center and remains its own company; it's the other parts of the Victor's company that have been sold.

I'd walk in carrying a Molotov Cocktail, already on F**ING FIRE.

They WILL find your bass, or vigilante justice WILL be dealt.

Hahah.

Thanks for the advice everyone, pretty much ALL of it was good stuff. I spoke to a tech that wasn't there the day I came in and he told me that he had a couple instruments sent out to a guy who normally does paintjobs and things like that to help him with the load. He says mine is one of them.

It looks as if everything will be okay, as I was told to go in Friday to "pick it up."

Again, thanks for the advice it was just what I needed to sleep through last night. Take care everyone!

I'd like to say that most people that work at GC know absolutely nothing about what they are selling.

Every single retail store in the world is like that. If you were getting paid what most of them get paid, then why should you? Unless you really care and want to advance up the ladder. You just need to talk to the right person there- manager, supervisor, owner, whatever.

You must feel relieved that your bass isn't lost!

You still have "Guitar Center Lost/Stole my SR5" plastered on the site. If they didn't do anything, why defame them?
