As an example of why these guys bother me, I found the following email from them this morning:

Dear XXXX XXXXXX,

We noticed you recently put the following items in your shopping cart but didn't check out. We wondered if you meant to come back later and finish your shopping. For your convenience, here is a summary of the items currently in your cart. Blah blah blah......

So you're bothering me for my convenience huh? For my REAL convenience, I went and removed said items from the cart so you won't need to pester me again, and reminded myself that this is just another example of why I need to avoid Guitard Center in the future. As if I need yet another example.

Oh by the way, to top it off, when I returned to remove said items from the cart, they were already gone anyway. But Guitard Center, whatever you do PLEASE don't stop coming up with reasons to annoy me, makes me wanna go and drop some money with you. NOT

Hey man, you put the items in your cart, and that is at times like a "virtual hold". Meaning if their inventory is tied up in people placing things they do not intend to buy in their carts, then someone who legitimately wants to buy comes along they possibly cannot buy it, because you.........might. Who are they to second guess? So they asked. Within their right since you are keeping them in limbo.

I think you need bigger fish to fry if you let a simple courtesy email ruffle your dainties.

At what point do you give them your e-mail?

Yeah they're not the first ones to do this. Amazon does it. The worst is that on Amazon sometimes you need to add an item to your cart before you can see the price. So I do that and forget to unadd it, then get an email later on.

It's more likely that the items aren't taken out of online inventory until the purchase is made. It isn't like a store where you walk in and when you find something you want to buy, they take it to the front desk while you look around.

However, I don't really see why it's that uncommon. Sure most online retailers don't do that, but it's not unheard of. I think you're mad about GC for something else.

Of course, and I do realize that, just playing devil's advocate, as there IS the possibility. I have no vested interest in this either way, it just astounds me that this would bother someone.

That was my question as well.

You spent a total of 5 seconds reading the email, and probably 2-3 minutes thinking of what to say for this thread. I think you wasted my time more than GC wasted yours

Hah! Yeah, I get one of those every day. And then another one from Musician's Friend. And then another one from Jimmy at ThePerfectBass. And then another one from Jimmy at ThePerfectGuitar. And then another one about Guitar Center's home recording workshop...

One of these days I'll actually use one of those coupons and then I'll be happy.

Yep, get these almost daily as well.

15% off on selected Items...... (Some manufacturers have chosen not to participate in this promotion, so coupon is not valid for use on items from: Ampeg, Tech 21, Mesa-Boogie, Fender, Ernie Ball/Musicman, Shure, Gibson, Acoustic.........)

That's nonsense they don't "Hold" anything based on what's in your cart if that were true all their competitors would have to do is go on there and stick everything in the site in their cart. Think about this, I mean really think about it. Unless you were making a joke, in which case I agree it's funny!

No, I'm not "mad" at GC, not for that as I said, just an annoyance, I HATE when corporate America tells you they are doing something, typically screwing you, for your "convenience" or your "security" or "to keep this great nation safe and free" or whatever other totally BS reason they dream up. Is there seriously anyone on the planet stupid enough to think that's for your convenience? Besides that they had already cleared the cart anyway (it's just a cookie on your PC, they set it to die after a certain amount of time elapses).

My point is, it's just more nonsense from these guys, like we needed anymore. They should hire me to come with idiotic, fake, bogus messages about why they emailed you so I could come up with crap like "To prevent hackers from seizing control of your PC, emptying your bank account, destroying your credit, and leaving you homeless then running off with your significant other". I can come up with bogus reasons as good as they can and mine would be funny. How about "To keep your dick from shrivelling up into the approximate size of a toothpick thereby keeping you celibate for life". I mean wouldn't you rather read THAT BS reason than theirs?
