Send it back. That's why they have a return policy.

Pics please. I don't know about PRS guitars but I doubt guitar center would outright sell you a fake one. Maybe that model doesn't have a serial number visible... Someone more knowledgeable on this subject will probably chime in...

hmmm...interesting trend with fakes and guitar center. they need to get their act together or they're going to start losing a lot of money.

Pretty much. My first instinct would have been this course of action, right here... the ranting and raving can come later, sir!

Good luck with this.

Don't send it back. You can take it to any GC and return it.
Don't let them tell you otherwise.

I bet money they take down the used section off their site instead of addressing the real issue of having/taking on trade and selling fakes.

One would really hope that before purchasing an instrument like a PRS (they're rather expensive, aren't they?), they'd think to look for things like signs of counterfitting, serial numbers etc?

They are the Wal-Mart of music stores, employees trained enough to get by. Go in on a busy Saturday and trade something and see how much they actually "check" your instrument. You sign a waiver that what you are selling to them is legit, that's about it.

I bought a Roscoe from GC (used).
It had some pretty major issues that I'm not 100% sure that they were honest about.
Anyway, they wanted me to send it back so they could "look at it" etc......long story is, you can take it back to any GC and return it.
It's just a pain for the store you return it at to work out the money situation with the other store.
But not your issue.

Nice. Don't let this steer folks away from buying used gear; But let it steer folks away from GC for sure!

I just noticed that my TB page has not one but TW GC ads running at the same time...

Someone needs to bump this thread to the top for a while to keep the irony quotient high!

Wow, first a fake Ritter, now a fake PRS... Someone has a GREAT nationwide scam running... And I'm NOT referring to the person(s) selling the fakes to GC either...

its a hit or miss with instruments. Not everyoen is going to be perfect. If someone is selling a high end instrument to guitar center something has to be wrong for them to take a major hit on it.
However they have a great return policy and they are a business. They are in it to make money. Im sorry guys if you think it should be more.
I bought a lot of great used instruments through GC and got awesome deals. You think theyre there to rip you off, if you think so just dont buy from them.

Trust me even the small companies out there are there to make money off you. They cant survive without money just like both you and me. Some have better customer service some dont.

a retailer selling counterfeit items is a major issue on the Federal level. I would file a claim with the Federal Trade Commission. That would ensure no other consumers will get ripped off.

I think we need some pics. Since this is Talk Bass, can I assume we are talking about a PRS bass?
Lastly, with as many lookie-loos & kiddies as there are fingering everything at every Guitar Center to death, it's safe to say that almost everything they sell - including their new stuff - can be called "used". Unless you get your bass from them the same day they get it from the factory, you can bet there will be a scratch or ding somewhere on it. One of my least favorite stores around, and only used these days for picks & strings.

Just playing devils advocate here: Who's to say they{GC} wouldn't think it could have been swapped after the buyer got it...and now he/she is returning a fake?

This is what happens when a retail store starts dealing in used gear, especially a retailer with under-trained and under-experienced employees such as GC.

I remember when they first started taking in used gear, my first thought was, "oh no, you've got to be kidding."

Only the very savvy buyer ever saves money with GC used stuff. I think sight-unseen and inexperienced buyers usually get ripped off.
