OK, so I have been playing guitar in addition to bass for a few years and I am looking to switch up my gear. Simple reason is I love the sound of a friend's guitar rig - a Matchless Lightning 15. It sounds incredible, but it very expensive, $2000+. Class A, all tube, 15 watts, 2x12. From what I understand, it is based on the venerable Vox AC 15 / 30 amps. Now, those are expensive as well, $1600 for a 30 watt 2x12, $900 for a 15 watt 1x12. Is there anything else out there I can look into that'll sound close but not cost more than $700? I would ideally prefer a 15 watt 2x12, class A, all tube.
Thanks!

Some of them came with the Wharfdale speakers and others can be had with the better Neo (neodymium magnet) speaker. More info here: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...d.php?t=195790
So, you might be able to find one locally for that price (GC , MF, or Sam Ash; depending on your locale)...or a great vendor Nitrotone who posts over on The Gear Page has them for that price too: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...d.php?t=195956 http://www.nitro-tone.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=145
Hope this helps some...
Edited to add:
Oh, I almost forgot. You might also want to look into the Laney LC30/LC15amps. They're Laney's take on the AC30/AC15 and come in 2-10, 1-12, and 2-12 versions & supposedly very, very nice and a great price. You may have to dig around a bit to find one though, but there are usually a bunch up on eBay (new & used) & it should fit right in your price range too.
A bit more expensive, but in the boutique realm is the Valvetronics Hayseed. It's their Vox based amp and for a boutique amp they're very reasonably priced, but probably a bit more (new) than you're looking to pay. So, keep an eye out for a used one.

I tried MF, Sweetwater, AMS, ZZounds and all are out. I sent an email to Nitrotone but haven't heard anything about it yet. Anyone know where some might be hiding out?
Thanks!
