"Guitar Hero" is officially toast!

Activision announced today that it is terminating the Guitar Hero video game franchise after a 5 year run. I am curious whether you guys think this is a good or bad thing, and whether this game had any profound positive or negative influence on kids with regards to music.

OK, go....

Can't say I'm surprised, sales have been plummeting for the past two years or so. It was big for awhile then went out of style, that's just the way it goes. No good or bad really, IMO, that's just the world of video games.

I would say a net positive. Exposed a lot of kids to music they might not have tried......got parents & kids playing together.......probably more than a few who were inspired to actually take up a real instrument.

guitar hero 2 got me into music back in 2006

thats what made me pick up a bass the same year

been playing ever since

they should have spaced the games more (2 years per game) and just focused on letting people download songs

and they should have stuck to epic classic rock/classic metal stuff that got kids into the "culture" of rock that seemed to exist much more during those time periods.

well anyways it worked for me
