Guitar Stand Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys. I recently bought a guitar stand (Millenium GS-2000), and it says : "Keep away from Nitro Cellulose Laquer" or something... I have a Fender Highway One Jazz bass, with Satin finish on body and neck. All I know is that the neck has a satin finish, but i don't know if it's Nitro stuff. I let my bass 3 days now on the stand, and nothing happened... The stand has some rubber-like material over the metal, to prevent the bass to slip.

1. Can I keep my bass on that stand?
2. Nothing happened until now... Can something happen in future?
3. What can the stand do the bass? Can the stand dissolve the finish on my body or neck? Can it produce a chemical reaction and start a FIRE?
4. Does anybody have bad experiences with this kind of dangerous stands?
5. If it is dangerous, what should I do? Should I put something between bass and stand? What?

Thanx a lot guys!

You are Probably going to want to take a rag or an old t-shirt and put it over the stand. The Rubber tubing is "Supposed" to protect the finish on the guitar but "supposed to" doesnt mean it will. I had a customer who purchased a Highway One Strat In the Satin Sunburst Finish, and got an Ultra Stand with the rubber tubeing. He came back 2 months later with the finish destroyed on the bottom of the guitar from where it had sat on the stand. SO.....
1. Yes you can keep your bass on the stand if you Protect it further(i.e. a t-shirt of rag)
2. Yes. something can happen in the future(its a chemical reaction and takes some time)
3. Yes it can dissolve the finish, more so on the body than the neck, and no ...it wont randomly burst into flames
4.See earlier statement
5.See number 1.

Personally i use Genesis GS-100 Stands and have never had a problem. Check 'em out.

Your bass is NOT finished in nitro so you have no worries.

Exactly what BigBadDaddy said! If you have an old (or new) T-Shirt, just place it over the stand.

HOLY SH** !!!

It happened! I took my bass, and took closely! I have marks from the stand on my body, it's not bad, it's actually like a fingerprint... I don't care at all, but it is there, AND I CAN'T TAKE THE PRINTS OFF ! ! ! ! TAKE CARE WITH THOSE STANDS! On the neck I don't see nothing, but the marks are in the body. As I said, there are very small, but I have the stand since a few days... Thanks a lot BigBadDaddy!!! If you weren't, my bass would be ruined! Can I use foam? Or does foam also make chemical reactions?

On the other side, cables are actually made from the same material... Why do cables don't harm our basses?
Anyway, I put 2 socks on my stand :P

Can I just put a piece of foam over the rubber?
I want to put it forever there, so I should never again have problems with it.....

I bought these fuzzy stand protectors the last time I was in japan. It's just some plush fabric material that slides over a typical wishbone type tube guitar stand. It works really well and I wished I would have bought more. I wonder if anyone sells these online anywhere? I was thinking of trying to make my own for all of my stands but surely someone sells them?

Here's the top portion of what I was talking about. Anyone know where to buy similar stand protectors?

Sadowsky ships them with their basses, so you might be able to order one from Roger.

It's a shame that people built stands that harm guitars :|
