I'm currently visiting Dallas and would like to check out some guitar (bass) store here. Do you guys have any recommendation?? I appreciate if TB folks here could recommend any bar with live music.

also for live music in Dallas you need to head to Deep Ellum, I suggest The Gypsy Tearoom, The Galaxy, The Rock, Trees Lounge etc. (for rock) played all these places a few times....here is a link that includes a map to Deep Ellum

there's a Guitar Center pretty close in Fort Worth.

as for live music,
The Door, Trees, The Rockyard, Aardvark,a bunch more. i've played most of them.
it mostly depends on what genre you want to hear.

Brook Mays is out of business. There's two Zoo's, same road just either side of 635. Both can be fun, and one is right next door to Larry Morgan's, which is usually worth checking out for bass gear.

Dallas is quite a bit different. It has alot of different sides too.

(hood, slum, high class, middle class, shopping, dirty, music-y,dead, lit up, driving, busy,.............)

To Be honest Austin has a much more vibrant music scene and way cooler muisc stores (see mojo in dictionary)...lol

My bad...I used to go regularly to Dallas to conduct training sessions and always visited the Pro Shop down on Mockingbird and the Garland Rd Zoo, but it's been a while.

I'm in the same boat....visiting inlaws in the DFW area. I went to the Mr E's in Fort Worth by the Hulen Mall...it totally sucks. There were literally only like 8 basses. I'm glad I hadn't gone out of my way to go there.

Larry Morgan's is usually worth checking out, but I have heard his stock is down at the moment. Mostly Yamaha, Fender and a few boutiques. Guitar Center at Midway and LBJ usually seems to have the best Bass selection of all the GCs in the area. I haven't really been impressed with anyone else although I have heard good things about Anderson Guitar. Zoo music is always fun they have lots of guitars just kinda stacked everywhere and you might actually find a gem or two if you look hard enough.

I wish someone would open a bass specialty shop in this area. You would think an area as big as Dallas and Fort Worth would be able to support one.
