Why must they be so loud all the time?
Why must they play things that aren't supposed to be there?
Why must they play ALL the time?
I just played the worst version of "Fantastic Voyage" I've ever heard in my, close to, 40 years of playing!! The guitarist just ruined it for me!

| | | | why do you think they get more creditability and respect from the public? because they fill in empty spaces, play loud and gt heard.
More bass players should take these lesssons, its the only reason anyone Knows Flea. Cause he plays loud constant and is all over the place on stage.

| | | please elaborate, cause every band Ive EVER seen unless the bass player is also the singer (Getty lee, sting, "does winger count?", Paul McCartney, all american rejects, ETC) the guitarists is ALWAYS more acknowledged than the bassist.
i mean if the chilli peppers stuck with any one guitarists for long enough people would probably forget flea more, which is why i have always believed they dropped dave. Cause he was getting more attention than anthony and flea.

| | | | behind the scenes doesnt get you paid and laid my freind. its the behind the scenes attitude that ruined it for those of us who wanted to rock out with the instrument.
everyone loves to bring up entwhistle who was one of the people who inspired me to learn bass since i love the who but upon researching why do you all think he started wearing a stupid skeleton suit? so people would notice him, he didnt like being excluded out of band notoriety.
also dont take super offense to this debate im not meaning to put you down just shedding my opinion, like to debate and am very bored at work today.

I guess one of the reasons I'm not attracted to most Rock music is because of the extensive use of upfront, in your face guitars! |

| | | | yes i myself am leaning VERY much towards alot fo the newer pop alt like muse, killers, arctic monkeys, hockey, mgmt ETC because of their use of more bass/drums/keys.
been trying to make a bit of this myself but my area of life SUCKS to be anything but a guitarist. I have been looking for another bass player or leisure drummer FOR YEARS! really wish i lived where all you guys live cause you make it sound like being a bassist is like GOD whereever you all are lol.

Sometimes I am a guitarist, sometimes I'm a bass player. I love being part of a musical whole, no matter which role I am in at the time. I do it for free a lot of the time, and my wife doesn't care which instrument I play. YMMV.
The self-congratulatory bashing of guitarists in here gets pretty tiresome. Give it a rest. |
