Guitarist who play bass

What guitarists play bass on occasion?
I know Jimi Hendrix played bass on some of the songs he recorded. Jimmy Page played bass briefly during the Yardbirds.

Also guitarist that play bass, do they usually use a pick?

David Gilmour played bass on a lot of Pink Floyd albums (especially all the fretless bass), and was quite a good bassist.

Jimi Hendrix's bass player was a rhythm guitard.

Do you even know who you're insulting?

There are people who deserve that title, Noel Redding is not one of them.

+1

He was no guitard. "Guitard" should be reserved for the truly clueless/thoughtless/mindless guitarists deserving the title. I've been playing guitar for 30+ years and I've never once acted or thought like a "guitard". I love making music and feel privileged to be able to do so.

I've only just started playing bass, but I too have had plenty of run-ins with true "guitards". It's part of a mindset that goes well beyond just music.

Just my humble $.02.

peace,

obg

Ronnie Wood was bassist for the original Jeff Beck Group . Sounds like a guitar player playing bass.
Actually came up with some interesting lines. His lead licks on bass sound really cool - kinda sloppy, but hey! - that's Ronnie!!

Hi.

My guess would be any and all musicians have done that at one point or another.

To be absolutely honest, this:"I am a BASSPLAYER, I WON'T even touch any other instrument, I am a BASSPLAYER You see?" crap that seems to be so popular among some of the TBers just amuses me beyond belief.

I rehearse and play more guitar than bass even though I only gig in a band with a bass and with an acoustic guitar only as a solo act.

To add to the list, not a guitarist, but rather a singer : Boz Burrell, RIP, a pretty fine bassist IMHO.

Regards
Sam

+1.

It is so limiting and hurtful to pride ourselves as being bass players only. We should all consider ourselves musicians first, and when we don't is when we get into class warfare.

Funny thing is since this is a bass forum the answers are mostly honest, ask this question at a guitar forum and all you'll read is ME ME ME ME.. most all guitarists think they can play bass.

Some people still think that term is clever.

Also, Jonsi is freakishly skinny.

Well, would you expect people like Mr. Manring to play a guitar?
