Guitarists in GC

Sign in to disble this ad
Man it really annoys me, everytime im in GC to try out some basses, a guitarist walks in and starts jamming extremely loud on some crappy solo he can't even get right. So in the sonic wars, I'll usually just lay on the low notes really loud to try and drown them out. Anyone else do this or have 'sonic wars' at GC with guitarists? I do.

Just a rant/discussion starter .

Nope. I was like that at one time. I'm just glad some guy didn't come in and try to punk me out.

It seems as if most people go in there to show off every lick they know instead of actually getting a feel for an instrument. Everytime I go in, it's a wankfest. In every damn department.

This is what I run into as well. It's incredibly annoying. I just avoid Guitar Center because even if I spot something I like, I can never concentrate enough to get a feel for it. Oh well.

Man these anti-GC threads seems to multiply faster than rabbits.

Granted, I do hear a lot of guitar wankers when I go in. Bass section is rarely crowded though.

My main GC complaint is that they play music over the PA to loudly. I want to hear myself, not some prerecorded wanker.

Hmmm...That seems like a mature solution...

I've seen some of these guys before.

It's crazy to see a kid come in wearing a belt with metal studs all over it, pick the most expensive Les Paul, and then pound on it through a Marshall half-stack.

Can I hear "B-stock"?

I like it when people do that while I test drive gear in stores.

That way, if it annoys me, the gear I'm looking at hasn't won my full attention, and I'm not buying it

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

All the more reason I stick to buying from local vendors. Besides, the music houses here will match GC anyway. And the location I go to has a nice isolated room where all the amps are located. The worst of the newbies rarely bother because it is dominated by serious shoppers/musicians.

It's not really only guitarists. I was in SamAsh once checking out some higher-tier hartke and this 16 year old kid (who, yes I'll admit it, was better than me),walks in and picks up a warwick, plugs in and starts wanking with the slapping and the popping. I was there with my guitarist, also my best friend, and he waited for me to reply, but I saw what was coming, I just put the bass down and went to check out straps. I don't need that hyper-competitive crap. we're musicians, not meat heads, where's the love?

I, for one, like GC because I love eye balling all the gear. We just had a grand opening of a GC over in Greensboro a couple of months ago. So my buddy and I wait in line to get some great opening day deals and finally get in the door and every single bass amp, guitar amp, and drum set, has someone wanking away (as expected). If that isn't enough noise they have the PA cranked up with some AC/DC, and to top it all off (and this I just can't understand) they have an Elvis impersonator singing (badly) on top of all of the other sounds. What moron at GC booked this guy? Thats what I want to know.

i think NY is the exact opposite from the rest of the US. GC is the place where i go cuz there arent any wankers going around, and its pretty big so i dont hear anybody else...

the sam ash on the other hand has wankers at every corner, and they have electric drum kits hooked up so these drumtards think its cute to turn up and hit hard

Actually, I really don't mind that GC lets people try stuff out. It's somewhat refreshing since the mom and pop stores around here make a funeral sound like a party. Before GC, you'd go into one of the very few stores here, pick up a bass and plug in. As soon as the first note is plucked, a salesman is hovering over you telling you that they really don't let people play loudly because it disturbs people. Talk about tight-a&$#d!

I don't mind people trying out new equipment, just don't be obnoxious about it. Oh and they need to nix the pa music.
