Guitars into bass rigs?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone occasionally run a guitar into their bass rigs?

What guitars sound better than others? Certain rig combinations sound better than others? Tube amps vs. solid state? 10 inch speakers, 12's or 15's?

Heavy gauge guitar strings or lighter gauge?

Thanks!

I sometimes use my minimark as an acoustic guitar amp . . . takes a little tone shaping from bddi, but it works well

I run a Strat copy and an SG copy into my bass rig all the time....that way I don't need an extra amp in my teaching studio.

I like the warm tone I get a lot, on my head I turn on the "bright" (Peav Mk IV). Solid State

Both sound great IMO....

Cab is: (2) 10" and (1) 18"

Strings are 10s

I run a cheap Ibanez into my Fender BXR and it sounds quite nice with a little eq. Add some reverb and it sounds great.

I think bass heads are fairly common, even quite popular with guitarists, like this little bit from the Fender Bassman wiki says:

Quote:
Despite the fact that it was originally designed for bass guitars, it was more famous for its use with normal electric guitar and thus, when Fender recently reissued the 59 (5F6A) edition, it was categorized under guitar amplification instead.

Sometimes I have run my acoustic through my bass rig (peavey pro500 head, aguilar GS112 cab) and it sounds fantastic.

Far out. Thanks everyone for your replies.

How about effects? Do you feel like one translates to the other well?

I gigged a 61 Jazzmaster with 10s and a 66 Guild Starfire IV with 11s through my old AMP BH-250 into a Bag End S12 and S15... used a Boss ME-5 for dirt and verb. It was my original band's drummer's "cover band" he was in a bind after firing his keyboardist and rhythm guitarist. I ended up playing with them for a few months.

It worked well... actually had a couple guitarist from other bands that caught our shows comment on my tone.

I am sad that I don't own a tube amp, but I made up for it very well by running my guitar through the pedalboard to stereo outs, one to my Fender EightFive SS 112 combo and the other to a Behringer Ultrabass BX600 combo, and it rulez.

I heard that too. When I first bought a practice amp I bought a little 10 watt bass amp for that reason thinking the possibility of my picking up a bass might happen in what was then the future. I still don't have a "proper amp"

I occasionally run my Strats through my Roland Cube Bass 100, and they sound great played clean. Not sure how that coaxial tweeter would sound with OD or distortion though. I've never run a guitar through my G-K stuff, but I should try it.
