Has anyone else seen the video footage when Duff played with Axl recently? Rolllingstone.com has some good footage. Not to discredit the band but watching the footage it seems like a G&R covering G&R. I guess those of us who grew up during that era are used to the real thing. I like the new G&R cd. Slash's cd was good. Watching any other version of the band isn't the same. |

I was jamming to Appetite in the late 80s and early 90s, and later the Use Your Illusions. I dont know what Chinese Democracy was supposed to be... but I tell you what is wasnt... it wasnt the GNR my generation knew and loved. It was like an Axl solo album, IMO. |

Own all there CD's and a ton of crap. GNR slowly fell apart and after Izzy leaving it was over, izzy is really an underrated member he had alot to do with it, losing steven was not a huge impact, although it was sad the road he chose and the fact today he is so messed up and still struggling with sobriety.
I was not a fan of velvet revolver at all, and why did they want scott as a singer? he was unreliable. I respect GNR original line up for not getting back together as it would seem it was only about the money to me. However, I would be willing to pay a hefty price 200$+ for tickets to that show, if it was the original full line up, with only music from 86-94 era.
I had not heard of Duff and Axl playing together, from the way I heard of it Duff did not leave on a sore note with axl, he left in 1997 after i guess nothing progressed. Slash in 1995 and I dont think that was as pretty of a leaving.
I just wish axl let the GNR name die with slash and duff leaving. |

| | | | Yes, Izzy was a vital part of the bands early success. He was the Keith Richards to Slash's Ronnie Wood, if you will.
The new GNR did feature one of my fave old school bassists though.. Tommy Stinson (Replacements). |

Forget ay connotations of trying to be something new, and just be the single most fun band around. Imagine the encore: Rocket Queen, 18 & Life and Slither!

Duff plays rhythm and sings, and does a pretty good job @ both. Not to mention, their bassist, Jeff Rouse, is a monster ! If VR reforms, they need to just put Duff out front - he can do it ! As far as AXl`s deal ... AFD came out when I was in 8th grade, and it was a defining moment for me. Same for "Illusion(s)" To see what he has become and what he`s done with the name is sad. I remember Axl Rose as a dirt poor, bad*ss rock `n roller that walked the walk. Look at him now - he doesn`t even realize what he has become - a self - aggrandizing, eccentric weirdo and wasted talent. A 28 yo Axl would`ve detested the current version. A caricature of his former self. He was never a good singer, IMO, but a fantastic songwriter and frontman. You can see glimpses of it here and there on ChiDem, and it only reminds you of how did he run off the rails so far ?

Bach was among those auditioning for the spot with Velvet Revolver and he wasn't particularly popular with a few members. I doubt you'll see him join.
I did like Chinese Democracy. I didn't love it, but thought it was a good album, even if not able to move me the same way that the Illusions had.

Yes very!
and velvet revolver really does just need to make duff sing, he is a great singer for punk style music. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
