Had a battle of the bands tryout yesterday

I had a BOTB tryout for my school yesterday, we played 2 songs, which were message in a bottle by the police, and on original (you can hear it in my sig(shameless plug)) and we all thought we pretty much nailed everything, the judges we talked to liked us, and we were feeling pretty good about everything. After we played our orignal, a really good drummer at our school came up and said, "that's the best song I've heard here so far," and that got us expecting to be in easy. So, fastforward a few hours and we find out that we are not in the battle. I'm pretty surprised, and not too happy. But it turns out not everything is bad, (I should probably tell you now we don't have a drummer, we're kind of acoustic, although we'd like a drummer) and 2 drummers (who saw us audition) offer to play with us, one who previously said no. We also got 2 guitarists who wanted to play with us. We turned down the guitarists, and we gained a drummer, whom we had really wanted to play with us for a while. So not all is bad, and I'm pretty happy that we're liked so much, and that we now have a really good drummer.

So, has anyone else had an experience where something that seems bad at first turns out to be extremely good?

Battle of the Bands are always fixed. Without exception.

BOTB's can be a real letdown. Commercial ones make tons of cash for the organisers and the winners are often determined by how many people pay to get in.

Nice that you found a drummer.

This was for my school thing though. But it was still a popularity contest.

Like your song on soundclick. A good drummer will add a new dimention to your music. Experiences that seem bad at the time but turn out to have good consequences happen many times in life.
