Hampton Roads Jazz scene?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, a friend of a friend is moving here to Hampton Roads from Indiana, and he's feeling kind of bummed about the local jazz scene.

He's a guitarist that was actively involved in the Indiana scene, and he's hoping to make some connections here in the area. Can anyone recommend some places that he can go, or people he should talk to? Anyone interested in potentially hooking up with this guy? I can't speak for his ability, but by reputation he's pretty good.

I'll see if I can get a MySpace or something where he's got some music posted, consider this a tickler.

Thanks.

I wish I knew. I'm still bummed out, after 7 years, from the lack of a Funk, R&B & Latin scene here! I think the Jazz scene is even smaller. I suggest he do open mics to get his name and face out there. That's what I've been doing of late. Got offers to record so far.

"Hampton Roads Jazz Scene" is an oxymoron.

+1 There are some things going on but those circles are really tight! There were 2 local bands who opened each day of the Norfolk Jazz Festival. I believe one band was called As-1 and the other was Forte (www.fortejazz.com). No website found for As One. Maybe have him send out an e-mail and he may get some feedback. I know I could have easily done those gigs if I was in a band like those. Just gotta get those folks out of the woodworks! Like I said, the circles are really tight when it comes to genres other than rock, indie or country in these here parts!

Edit: I found As-1's site. http://www.myspace.com/as1band
