Happy Birthday - Mike Tobias, Stuart Spector and Charlie Kniceley

Sign in to disble this ad
This past weekend I attended a large birthday party outside of New Paltz , NY for Mike Tobias, Stuart Spector and Charlie Kniceley. Charlie is a friend of mine and an absolute beast of a bass player, playing in and around the Woodstock, NY area. He is a long time friend of Mike Tobias and Stuart Spector, and they started sharing Birthday Parties a few years ago.

There were at least 5 different band lineups, half of which had Charlie in, that played from 1:00 pm until after Mid nite in a tent in Stuart's back yard. The music was OUTSTANDING. The players in and around that area are terrific.

Some Pics from my weekend, if you'll indulge:
The Birthday Boys, Stuart Spector, Charlie Kniceley, and Mike Tobias

My friend Charlie with his friend Danny Louis, keyboardist for Gov't Mule. Danny sat in with several bands, and really added some great piano to the sounds. Very nice guy as well.

Your correspondent with Dave Holland.

What a gracious man, and very old friend of Charlie's. I acted like a teenager and asked Charlie's wife to introduce me, and we talked for a few minutes. About the World Cup of course....

DAVE HOLLAND!

My man Charlie with his brand spanking new MTD Marilyn - 635 (The new chambered one). You may notice an extra nob on it. It has a built in Piezo bridge, in addition to the 2 barts. Plays nice! Very few of these have been made yet.

Of course, as rare as the Marilyn 635's are, particularly with Piezo bridges, there were two at the party. Mike just turned one over to a friend and business partner at the party.

Nice!

Stuart Spector taking a turn at the piano with one of the bands. He is an excellent player! And a close up shot of a Spector in use by Guitarist Jimmy Eppard

And a side trip to Mike's Shop

What trip to Woodstock would be complete with out a trip to the MTD workshop?

Some random Zephyr's and a gorgeous spalted maple top 535

A 635 that is supposed to be going to NAMM in Austin in a week, and an acoustic that has been "in progress" for 8 years.

ah, sounds like lots of fun. Great basses. Charlie is one heck of a player, and i've been blessed to have him as a teacher...and he sold me some gear too, which is great.

Yeah - Danny Louis and Dave Holland, psht. BTW, i'm stopping by Mike's shop this weekend so i'll check out the NAMM basses

Oh, and Pete Levin, Keyboardist extraordinaire who plays in a group with his brother TONY LEVIN, was also sitting on on keys for several sets....

As long as we're name dropping...
