Luka by Suzanne Vega is a really poppy song about child abuse.

Semi Charmed Life

Sounds like a dumb catchy pop rock song. About crystal meth addiction.

Bouquet by Pinback. Sounds so pretty, is about a girl committing suicide.

Walters by Pinback. Beautiful song (great bass, by the way), is about Larry Walters. He flew on a lawn chair then killed himself.

Penelope by Pinback. Insanely good bassline, look it up. Is about a goldfish dying of dropsy.

"There She Goes" by numerous artists. Sounds like a song about a crush, but actually about heroin addiction.

I thought it was about domestic abuse, I didn't see the Child references at all in the lyrics.

Lost Horizons, by the Gin Blossoms; a glorious tour of G-major, but lyrics about hopelessness, alienation, and alcohol. Check it out.

Justin Townes Earl - Harlem River Blues

Has got to be the most upbeat exciting song about killing yourself I've ever heard.

Another Police song--Roxxane. People play it at weddings, but its about a whore. "You don't have to sell your body to the night."

Also, lots of Doors songs... they're all about death or stuff in one way. Jim Morrisson decided to put the second verse of Light my fire ("our love will become a funeral pyre) in a love song.

Kodachrome by Paul Simon. A good time, snappy pop melody but the song is about the phony appearance of life and the reality of the "real picture". A great song that touches on a deeper subject matter in a light hearted way. Light sarcasim but invokes heavy sarcastic thoughts about life.

Do you mean 'No Sugar Tonight' by the Guess Who?

Also just about any Smiths/Morrissey song has morbid lyrics set to happy sounding music ... part of what makes them so brilliant
