Has anyone ordered from Lava Cable?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm about to place an order from www.lavacable.com. I haven't found much info about them here, but I see that they have a wide variety of cable options. I'm currently using a Canare cable from Bayou. I would order from Bayou again but the current month+ wait time is a turn off. Lava Cable has Canare as well, but they also have many higher end cables available like Zaolla, Sommer, Klotz, Cardas, etc.

I’m just wondering if anyone has used Lava Cable before and what their experience was regarding wait time, customer service, etc.

Thanks!

I ordered a Kimber Kable from him. Fast turn around & honest advice. I asked which of two cables would best serve my needs he recommended the cheaper of the two. We'll never know which of them had the higher profit margin but I considered his advice to be sound. I'll order from him again.

Cool, that's good to know.

Anyone else place an order?

Read this thread for some level headed Bass playing folks
(a good number of the guys are here too)

Personally, I'll keep using my canare cables from http://www.greatcables.us and continue to buy future cables from them as well.... Todd and Patty are here on TB and give a discount to supporting members. They're real good people too

I can't speak to his service but based on his reprehensible behaviour in several threads on HC I wouldn't buy anything from him if he was the last cable vendor on earth.

Order placed...I went with the Sommer Spirit XXL with a right angle Neutrik Silent Plug. I'm not expecting it to sound any better than any other cables I use, but I just wanted a durable cable that is made well with nice plugs that is easy coil and uncoil. $45 isn't too much to pay at all for the last cable I'll need, considering my Monster cable cost the same amount.

I'm not a big fan of the Canare GS-6 cable that it seems like most of the other independant cable makers use, because it doesn't coil well for me and it is too thin for my taste. I'll be sure to post up a review of the Sommer Spirit XXL as well as Lava Cable.

I hear you there... that is why I have been ordering canare 4E6S cables lately. They say it's a little warmer (slight high end roll off) signal, but that suits me.

My cable came earlier this week, so I figured I would write a quick review. As I said earlier, I'm firmly in the camp that believes that you will not hear a difference in sound with any decent cable (except with the really cheap cables). So my reason for making this purchase was mostly about construction quality, features (the plugs) durability, and ability to coil/uncoil well.

The Sommer Spirit XXL from Lava Cable has quickly become my favorite cable. It is certainly well constructed, and really looks like it's built to last (of course, time will tell.) I'm a big fan of the Neutrik 1/4" regular and silent plugs, as I've used these in the past with Canare cables from Bayou. But what sets this cable apart from the Canare is the ease of coil and the thickness. The Sommer is the perfect thickness for me - thick enough to feel substantial in the hand but not to thick that it isn't flexible. This cable just falls right into a straight line when I uncoil it, and coils back using the roadie wrap with no problems at all. I don't think I'll ever have a problem with this cable getting tangled on stage.

As I expected, I don't hear any difference in tone between it and the Bayou, Monster, or Planet Waves cables that I also have. They all sound good. As I mentioned, for $45 it's not like I was paying a boatload extra for a super high-end cable...it's worth the extra $12 or so from for price for a Canare or a George L for a cable that fits my needs and will last. I really like the look of this cable, it has a clear outer PVC wrap on top of a dark silver braided core. Very cool. It's certainly a cable that will get noticed by the other guys in the band.

Customer service was great. I had this cable in my hands 9 days after the initial order, and that is including two weekends and the summer NAMM show that Mark attended. I had a few questions for him before I ordered and he was very quick to respond and helpful. I will definitely order again, I'll get another one just like this to use as a backup and I'll also get a new speaker cable.

Here's a quick pic from my cell phone:

And here's a better pic from the website, which shows the clear PVC over the braid:
