hey guys. I'm looking to buy a gear-hauler, and there's a volvo wagon that I'm looking at that I think will work.
Any of you happen to have a volvo wagon? The one I'm looking at is an 86.
here's what it needs to hold:
ampeg 8x10
marshal 1960 AV
a bass head and guitar head
a bass and a guitar
and a kick drum
think the volvo wagon would be big enough? |

Let's see, i have a jeep grand cherokee, I've fit 2 marshals style cabs and my 4x10 mesa boogie + drums in the back. I think size are not all that much different width and length wise, Volvo might even be bigger. Hight shouldn't matter.
As far as car goes, older Volvo's are solid.

Something like this one?
I can tell you from personal experience that an 8x10 can fit in the backseat of my Saturn, taking up the entire thing. Just looking at that picture, I can see an 8x10 taking up about half of the back and the cab and heads taking up the rest. Ideally I'd probably try to stack the bass drum on top of the lying down 8x10 but if you can fit it in the front seat that'd be good (depending on the size of the bass drum). I've had good luck fitting stuff into a regular minivan, tetris-style, so I think the wagon looks like a good bet. Just my guess. |

Just my 2 cents.

A | It's worth it, chicks dig Volvo station-wagons.

A | my Volvos have been cheaper to keep up than my recent Fords and Dodges. The 200 and 700 series Volvos are pretty straight forward front engine / rear drive / minimal computers type cars.

I have an '02 Jetta wagon. I have fit a full size electric piano in there in the box with the back seats folded. There's no question in my mind that an 8x10 would fit as well as the piano. I could easily fit a 2x15 cab without shorting any passengers (roughly 25" x 36").
There was some space behind the cab, so it could have been pushed in farther than pictured. If I had ever done this for transit I would have laid the cab down or thethered it to keep those corners indide the rear glass at all times
In a larger wagon I can see the Marshall 4x12 taking up more than its share. If test-loading the car isn't possible, a tape measure would be a good idea. |

| | | | Good choice Find a private Volvo mechanic you can trust. They will know what's up if something makes a little noise instead of you paying for hours of the unenlightened searching. Great solid cars. 24 mpg in all weather up a hill in 25 ft. of snow with a headwind. About the snow put on snows and they go anywhere in the winter. Erie motors can sell you some used wheels mount your snows and change seasonally. The 245 fits huge amounts of gear. The 740s are shaped a little different a little more contemporary and don't rust. The 240s can rust. My children have survived major accidents in Volvos with no ill affects. |

It's also been the best overall car we have ever owned. Runs good, trouble free. We have a good dealership here (Dwyer & Sons). They're not cheap (are they ever?) but they are good, and I trust them.
The wagon's a good ride for gear. The 240's are alright, the V-70's are even better.
