I'm more amazed by the seller's 100% positive feedback.

That $600 pickguard could add a couple thousand to the selling price of a vintage bass that only lacks an age-appropriate pickguard to be complete. The target audience will obviously be very small.

its true. $600 is a bit much, but an original good condition legit vintage pickguard, sadly enough, is worth a bit of cash, for this exact reason. immagine a jazz bass thats 100% original besides the pg... wouldent bother me, but other people may want to fix that..

Just like so many things in bass-dom, it's worth whatever somebody will pay for it.

However, IMO I wouldn't pay any more for it, than he's asking for the shipping. It's a hunk of plastic.

Looks like the market will deem him a joke on this one.

"vintage" market is...interesting

My (upright) Czech bass, made sometime in the 1940's has a new fingerboard (2nd), a new bridge (at least the 4th one), new endpin (3rd), new tail block and new tuning machines as of last year. The bass plays better, the endpin never slips and it tunes more reliably- its appraised value of the bass is now much higher.

Even if my doghouse were from the hands of a famous maker, the appraisal would still be higher because of the playability and reliability. Swap out the neck, scroll or a major body part... that would be different.

If the seller can get $600 for a pickguard for a factory-made slab, then I've underestimated the level of insanity in the "vintage" market.

Actually that price is low compared with some of the prices I've seen for similar items... Like $1500 for a pickguard etc. Ridiculous, yes, but there are always people ridiculous enough to pay for them.

I sent him a question, "$600 for a pickguard? You're kidding, right?" Can't wait to see what he says!
