hi guy's, i'm going to college soon so i won't be able to play in my room with an amp due to the noise restrictions they have, so i was looking around for some decent head phones instead but everyone i try doesn't seem to have the low frequency quality i'm looking for,
does anyone know or have any info on brands and models that are good for bass guitars. my price range is around $300.
thanks |

Playing Bass with headphones is a compromise in the first place, but I find of all the 'phones I've used (Panasonic, Sony, Sanyo, Audio-Technic) the Bose do the best job with my bass. |

Wow. I remember turning up at my dorm room in 1987 with my Rickenbacker 4001 and a 4-1/2' tall Kustom amp with 10 8" speakers. I was everybody's best friend in about 10 minutes. NOT.
That said, I don't have any info for you. Just an observation on how things have changed. Feelin' old. |

AKG K-81 DJ (around $70) are also getting lots of good reviews recently. (within the last year or two) Stronger bass response than the Sonys but not as neutral of a sound.
Sennheiser makes very good phones. Bose is way overpriced, IMHO. |

I use a set made by KOSS(?) for Tandy in the 1980's that are open air. They sound so good, are super light, and can be worn for hours that I've re-foamed them twice(nasty ozone in them thar cities before we come to the boonies).
Your headphones must:
Sound good or great to YOU
Be comfortable and possibly very light
Be comfortable for extended periods of time
Also consider getting a Line 6 or Behringer POD or similar device to use your PC into it and then headphones to practice with tunes. My "quiet" practice setup with the Behringer POD or a Line 6 BassPODXTLive:

the way i set it up is to unplug my cabs and DI my amp into a small mixer (Behringer Xenyx 502), then run the headphone line out from the stereo into the mixer as well.
from there, i can mix the sound in the phones to my liking, balancing my bass to whatever music i'm jamming with. it sounds pretty good overall.

btw, good luck at school! |

just thought I would throw that out there..

However, unless you are driving them to unhealthy levels, even low-priced headphones are pretty decent compared to many practice amps or combos. The problem may not be in your headphones. I assume you are a using pandora, line 6, or something reasonable as a headphone amp. Can you give more detail?
