Headstock socks...

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, this is both ridiculous and slightly demasculating.

I was wondering if anyone knew enough about knitting (gah! this is silliness) to be able to show a poor sap how to make a nice cozy sock for my bass' headstock.

Any help is appreciated!

Are you planning on carrying it in a golf bag with 11 other basses?

Wouldn't that dampen the tone? Actually my basses headstocks do get a bit chilly from time to time but I've never heard them complain.

Honestly I would think you'd have to be pretty clever with a crochet hook or knitting needle to be able to make something like that. More than I am anyway. I've made afghans but I think a headstock sock would be a bit more difficult.

I wish I could answer yes to that question...
Someday...someday..

Who knows, maybe this will catch on and become the next big thing!

Or not haha!

Maybe you could make an Afghan wrap...the holes in the Afghan pattern could be where the tuners poke through.

Excellent! That would be alot easier that trying to make a sock per se.

And I think I just found what I would be using...

What is the purpose of this sock, may I ask? It doesn't seem to me that a layer of yarn would do much for ding prevention.

You were close, but had you searched "Neck Sock," you would have been closer.

Ahh, well, this sock would not be on my bass. A special someone just started playing bass and this idea of a headstock sock adorning their bass popped into my head. Ridiculous eh?

Yup, no functional purpose whatsoever. Except for deflecting the occasional light ding.

You could always get some of those stretchy hair tie things and wrap them around the headstock. Some of them come with lace and feathers and all sorts of things.

That is a possibility... but ever since I saw glow in the dark thread, I HAVE to do something with that. Too freakin cool

Or you could get a real sock and just cut holes in it for the tuners. Bonus with that is that you'd have a spare for when one got dirty.

Their website says Paul Stanley uses them. I'm afraid to see what HIS neck socks look like .....

Liking the headstock cozy idea. Every head needs a hat.

To the OP: be careful with the knitting thing or you may end up with something like this:

Headstock cozies?? I believe what we have here is a breach of man card etiquette. The proper authorities have been notified. Remain where you are.
