Question Help with Berklee Audition

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys I have an audition for Berklee College of Music on Dec 1 and I'm going to play Birdland by Weather Report for my prepared piece. The problem is, is that the bass in the recording has to be taken out. Does anyone know how to do that? Or have any idea on what to do?

Thanks for all ya'lls help

-Ryan

see if you can find a midi sequence of it or a music minus one, and mute the bass.....

Just my opinion, but Birdland is a bit passe...

You can't just run it through Audacity or something and EQ all the low end out?

This free, down-loadable software can make any song on your computer a bass "play-along"!
BestPractice - easy to use, slow downer/pitch shifter/looper/vocal remover/bass isolator/bass backing track maker

I don't see it that way. It's a classic, just like any other jazz standard. However, if the auditioners want to hear your walking skills it wouldn't be a good choice.

i would go for something that shows a range of techniques but on the other hand pulling this off would show you can play

Learn something from his page, I think he still is the head of the bass dept. at Berklee.

http://www.brucegertz.com

Anything straight ahead and bebop or fast swing should get you in no problem, but then again I was there a long time ago.

To be honest they really want your cash more than worrying about you being a great player.

Work on your chart reading though, that will be pretty much what you'll be doing once you're there.

Good luck,
Dirk
